Good Bye Montessori
I thought I had it figured out when my daughter was attending a Montessori school for first grade—the gold standard, right? But she wasn’t getting enough sleep, enough movement, enough time with family, and we were rushing through mornings sacrificing connection for compliance.
Then came the first day of second grade—I dropped her off, walked back to my car, and felt that moment when your whole body screams that you just did something completely out of alignment with your truth. She attended that one day, and by the next morning, she was homeschooled. We decided her wellbeing and our family connection are more important than any academic strategy.


The truth
Since then, I’ve had three more children, been through mold toxicity, moved states, and spent sleep-deprived nights breastfeeding while still showing up for my older kids’ learning. Through all of this, I saw we couldn’t focus and I had little patience. I wasn’t being the calm, collected homeschool mom I always wanted to be—but I saw the truth: we were just sick and tired.
I dove deep into everything health-related—how the gut, our environment, sleep and nutrition impacts cognition, mood and behavior—this became especially clear as someone with ADHD myself and a 9-year-old son who has it too. When I started prioritizing these biological foundations before academic work, everything changed—our bodies and minds were finally ready to learn.
Our Home
Our entire family is now so happy with our home life that we recently didn’t even want to go on vacation—we’ve created lives we all genuinely love living, not just tolerating. My kids sleep and eat well, and learn without much argument because it’s all in the name of being a healthy, happy human. I get texts from other parents impressed that my children set healthy boundaries with food and confidently check labels before eating something.
Our home is optimized for movement and regulation, my kids have developed self-awareness and the ability to take breaks when their bodies need it, and all of this has created strong family bonds where we feel like a team.
